Hello,
There are two things I'd like to tell you about.
The first is an invitation to "Mindful Start"
Last spring a small group of us from Andersen, (Jamie, Patti, Jessie, Alice and I) met on Tuesday mornings for a "Mindful Start", a 10 minutes unguided mindful meditation. It was a wonderful way to support each other in our mindfulness practice. This year we would like to expand the invitation to all of you. We are meeting in Jessie Krohn's room B1__ on Tuesday mornings to sit for 10 minutes of mindfulness meditation. We will ring a mindfulness bell at 6:50 and sit for 10 minutes, so please arrive a couple of minutes before that to pull up a chair and settle in. Even though some of you on this email list don't work at Andersen, you could still sit at this time wherever you are! I'm also interested if anyone is interested in finding another time to sit, maybe after school or at lunch, on a different day. LMK
The second thing is to tell you that Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn will be at the Northrop at the U of M on Friday, November 20th.
Jon Kabat-Zinn is the author of Full Catastrophe Living, the MBSR book that we read for the Q-comp class with Robert Reed. The work of Mindful Schools is also based on JKZ's work.
JON KABAT-ZINN, PhD, is founding Executive Director of the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He is also the founding director of its renowned Stress Reduction Clinic and Professor of Medicine emeritus at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He teaches mindfulness and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) in various venues around the world.
The Stress Reduction Clinic has served as the model for mindfulness-based clinical intervention programs at over 200 medical centers and clinics nation-wide and abroad.
